Recipe
Servings: Makes for 2 pax
Cooking Time: ~1h
Ingredients
- 1 cup of short grain rice
- 200g of sliced beef
- 200g of corn kernels (approx 1/2 a can)
- 1 onion (sliced)
- Chopped spring onion
- 30g of salted butter
- 1 tbsp of canola oil (or any vegetable oil)
- 1 slice of American cheese (optional)
Sauce:
- 3 tbsp of teriyaki sauce
- 1 tbsp of regular soy sauce
- 1 tbsp of sesame oil
- 1 tbsp of honey
- Freshly ground Black pepper
Steps:
- To prep the rice, wash your rice by rinsing the rice with tap water multiple times. Keep discarding the water through a strainer, until the water runs clear (not cloudy). This step should take 3-4 rinses for 1 cup of rice.
- Add 1 cup of rice and 1 cup of water into a rice cooker and let it cook. Alternatively you may cook rice in a pot on a stove top.
- Tip: Use equal parts water: rice when cooking steamed rice.
- While the rice is cooking, prep your other ingredients and sauce.
- For the sauce, combine teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, honey and freshly ground black pepper, lightly stir and set aside.
- In a pan on medium low heat, add canola oil and sliced onions. Cook the onions for about 3-5 mins until onions are translucent and softened. Move the softened onions to the sides of the pan.
- Once rice is cooked, transfer rice to a small bowl and pat down the rice to the brim. Transfer rice to the middle of the pan, then add the sliced beef around the rice, on top of the onions.
- Add corn kernels, chopped spring onions, and a slice of butter on top of the rice. Drizzle the sauce over the beef and rice.
- Turn up the heat to high and mix everything together.
- Top it off with sliced american cheese for extra cheesiness!
- Garnish with spring onion, additional crack of black pepper and enjoy!
